Happy Birthday Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers)!
Mike Campbell produced 1/2 of the Mystery Girl album in 1988. (He and Benmont Tench & Howie Epstein of Tom Petty’s band “The Heartbreakers” played on it.)
Here’s a rare pic of Roy Orbison and Mike Campbell and Howie Epstein with Jim Keltner and producer Don Smith. The Heartbreakers would sometimes play shows with Roy in California and the west coast when Roy had one-off gigs. Funny thing about it – Nobody knew it was The Heartbreakers. Even today when I tell people who were there, they shake their heads and say “Noooo. I didn’t know that.” Maybe one day we’ll do a live album of “Roy Orbison and The Heartbreakers”….
